About Sarah
After decades as an educator, writer, and theater artist, Sarah uses her professional experience to help students achieve their admission goals, realize their artistic dreams, and find success in college and graduate school.
Background
Dr. Sarah Myers has spent 25 years as an educator and mentor in college, high school, and nonprofit settings. She double-majored in theatre and English at Northwestern University, where she graduated summa cum laude, and she earned both an MFA in playwriting and a PhD in theater from The University of Texas at Austin.
Before moving into educational consulting, Sarah was a tenured college professor at Augsburg University, where she chaired the theater department and started the playwriting concentration of Augsburg's low-res MFA creative writing program. She taught undergraduate and graduate courses in playwriting, script analysis, acting and improv, theater history, and community-engaged performance. She devised original productions with students, built study abroad programs, and worked with staff in admissions, financial aid, and academic advising.
Sarah also founded and directed the University Programs and Partnerships department at the Playwrights’ Center, where she designed a program for college students across the country to take accredited courses in playwriting, TV writing, and writing for digital media taught by professional writers working in Hollywood and on and off Broadway. Sarah started her career in education as a high school English and drama teacher, and she led a nonprofit program in autobiographical writing and performance for teenage girls.
Outside of her work as an educational consultant, Sarah is a professional writer and theater artist. Her essays and academic writing have been published in Fourth Genre, New Letters, Cleaver, Studies in Musical Theatre, TDR: The Drama Review, and The Reflective Teaching Artist, and her plays have been published by Playscripts, Inc., Spout Press, and New Madrid. Her work as a playwright, actor, director, and dramaturg has been staged in New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Austin, and Philadelphia, and she has been a part of many ensemble-based theater companies, including Wonderlust Productions, Workhaus Collective, Sod House Theater, and Rude Mechs.
Sarah has an Independent Educational Consultant Certificate from UC-Irvine, and she is an Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and a Member of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE).
